Cooking Education in Yavapai College offers students the opportunity to build a strong foundation in a wide range of culinary techniques, food preparation methods and nutritional concepts. The college’s Culinary Arts Program provides an introduction to the culinary arts, with courses in food safety, classic kitchen techniques, basic cooking principles, and food production. Through hands-on instruction, students learn how to create delicious meals, and gain an understanding of how food flavors and textures interact.

The Culinary Arts Program includes culinary fundamentals, baking and pastry, meat fabrication, garde manger, and knife skills, as well as nutrition and menu planning. Additional courses include international cuisine, regional American cuisine, restaurant operation management, and food and beverage cost control. All courses are taught by professional chefs with decades of experience in the culinary world.

During the program, students have the opportunity to participate in field trips to area restaurants and other venues, cook-offs, competitions and workshops, allowing them to gain valuable real-world experience. Through classroom lectures, labs and internships, students also gain insight into the business side of the culinary world.

Upon completing the Yavapai College Culinary Arts Program, students will have developed a solid skill-set, which can be applied either in the kitchen or in the business side of the industry. Students can choose to pursue a certificate or an Associate of Applied Science degree in Culinary Arts. Yavapai College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, ensuring that all curriculum is up to date and relevant. With the knowledge gained in the program, graduates will be prepared to pursue careers as executive chefs, chefs de cuisine, sous chefs, and restaurant owners.
