Cheyney University of Pennsylvania is one of the oldest historically black universities in the United States, and also offers excellent educational opportunities for students interested in pursuing cooking education. The university’s Department of Hospitality Management provides students with a comprehensive program that equips them with the knowledge and skills they need to secure successful careers in the restaurant, hospitality and foodservice industry. Through classes and hands-on learning experiences, students are able to hone their culinary craft and develop valuable leadership and management abilities.

The Culinary Arts program at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania offers three distinct educational tracks: Gourmet and Professional Cooking, Baking and Pastry Arts, and Restaurant Management and Design. Students can choose to pursue certificate as well as associate, bachelor, and master’s degree programs. Regardless of the track chosen, each program offers courses that cover topics such as food safety and sanitation, menu planning, cooking techniques, and hospitality industry trends.

Cheyney University of Pennsylvania also provides internship opportunities so students can gain practical experience working in the restaurant and foodservice industry. Internships may include baking pastries in a cake shop, managing a restaurant kitchen staff, or developing menus and recipes for a new café. In addition, many students take advantage of the school’s on-campus dining facilities to gain hands-on experience in cooking, presentation and customer service.
