Mercyhurst University provides a wide range of culinary arts education in its Culinary Arts program. This program seeks to educate students in the culinary skills needed to be successful in the food service industry. Students learn the basics of food preparation, flavor combinations, and presentation, while also studying the latest in food safety and sanitation. With an emphasis on creativity and exploration, Mercyhurst culinary students are exposed to a variety of different cuisines, such as classical French, Italian, Asian, and contemporary American.

The Culinary Arts program is divided into three main areas: Baking and Pastry Arts, Culinary Arts, and Hospitality Management. Within these concentrations, students have the opportunity to explore different facets of the culinary field, such as nutrition, sanitation, menu planning, purchasing, and professional development. By learning both theory and practice, students develop a strong foundation in all aspects of the food service industry.

Mercyhurst offers an extensive hands-on learning experience within the curriculum, which includes visits to local restaurants and events. Students also take part in practical labs where they can apply their skills in a collaborative environment. Through internships, students can explore the career paths available in the industry and gain valuable experience.

Students who complete the program at Mercyhurst receive a degree in Culinary Arts and qualify to take the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation examination. Upon passing the exam, graduates receive the Certified Foodservice Professional credential. The Mercyhurst credential is recognized and respected in the industry and opens doors to a wide variety of career opportunities.
