Lakeland University’s Cooking Education program provides students with the knowledge and skills to become successful in a career in the culinary industry. Students can choose from an Associate Degree in Culinary Arts, a Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Management, or a Certificate in Catering and Hospitality Management.

The Associate Degree in Culinary Arts requires 64 credits and includes classes such as Food Preparation, Quantity Food Production, Baking and Pastry Arts, and Advanced Cuisine. Through these courses, students learn about different types of cuisine and food preparation techniques and become exposed to the business practices that are required for success in the culinary industry.

The Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Management prepares students for managerial roles in the food industry. This program requires 124 credits and includes courses such as Food Services Safety and Sanitation, Food Science, Food Service Management, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Food Purchasing and Cost Control.

The Certificate in Catering and Hospitality Management requires 28 credits and includes courses such as Event Planning, Professional Etiquette, and Introduction to Hospitality Management. Through this program, students learn about the different aspects of catering and hospitality management, including budgeting, purchasing, menu design, and event marketing.

At the conclusion of any of the three programs, Lakeland University’s graduates will have the skills and knowledge necessary to make a successful transition into the professional culinary field. Graduates will be well-prepared to work as a chef, manager, or within the catering and hospitality industry. Through the Cooking Education Program, Lakeland University is helping to shape the next generation of culinary professionals.
