About

Cooking education at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) is an important part of the health and wellness initiatives it offers. It provides students, faculty, staff and the community with the opportunity to learn about proper nutrition, cooking techniques and healthy eating habits.

At OUHSC, students can take classes in topics such as food studies, culinary nutrition, food preparation and management, and advanced culinary techniques. In addition, cooking classes focused on nutrition are offered in a variety of areas that range from diabetes control to weight management and more. A variety of classes and programs like the Taste of Health Food Council and the Nutrition Awareness Program help encourage students to adopt healthy eating habits and make better food choices.

OUHSC also has a student-run restaurant called “The 500” that allows students to practice their cooking skills in real-world settings while receiving feedback from diners. In addition, the university hosts events such as cooking competitions and nutrition seminars to continue engaging the community in the importance of good nutrition.

Furthermore, OUHSC’s health sciences center has launched a program called the Healthy Eating and Living program. This program provides one-on-one counseling for those who need help with making healthier food choices, building healthy eating habits and reaching their nutritional goals.

Cooking education at OUHSC is designed to provide students, faculty, staff and the community with a comprehensive approach to understanding and managing healthy eating habits. Through educational classes, seminars, and on-campus resources, OUHSC offers support in helping its students make educated decisions about their nutritional needs.
