Cooking education at Southeastern University is a unique way to learn the art and science of culinary cuisine. The program provides students the opportunity to master the fundamentals of cooking through hands-on, interactive learning. From developing a safe and sanitary kitchen environment to creating delicious meals, students learn how to prepare food that is both healthy and delicious. With an emphasis on sustainability, the university’s cooking program also teaches students about nutrition and the importance of responsible food choices.

The program offers courses in various areas such as baking, nutrition, international cuisine, product knowledge, principles of gastronomy, and wine appreciation. In addition, the university offers a variety of internships and apprenticeships to give students the opportunity to gain real-world experience in aspects of cooking, such as vegan and vegetarian dishes, line cook positions, barista positions, and more.

In the classroom, students are exposed to many different elements of cooking, from knife skills and food safety to developing a menu and understanding flavor profiles. Through lectures and laboratory classes, students explore the chemistry involved in cooking, learn techniques for making delicious dishes, and learn the best ingredients to use in their recipes. There is an emphasis on sustainable sourcing and using local ingredients, as well as on developing an awareness of culture and cuisine from around the world.

At the end of the program, students are given a capstone project to create their own unique dish. This allows them to exhibit their skills and talents and demonstrate their knowledge of cooking to potential employers in the food industry. Graduates of the cooking education program leave with a solid foundation and understanding of the art and science of preparing delicious meals.
