About

University of North Texas (UNT) offers an outstanding culinary education in the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management. The curriculum provides students with professional-level training in the field of cooking and cuisine through courses such as International Cuisine, Advanced Food Production and Nutrition, and Food Science. UNT’s program also provides in-depth insight into management, marketing and organizational skills relevant to the restaurant and hospitality industry.

The faculty of UNT emphasizes hands-on learning and creative flair in their teaching style. Students are encouraged to explore the diverse array of global flavors found in various cultures and hone their cooking skills through experimentation. Instructors are well trained in the sciences of food, providing students with a comprehensive knowledge of nutrition, food safety and sanitation.

In addition to traditional classroom instruction, UNT offers students other opportunities to gain valuable experience through the Internships and Industry Experience program. This program allows students to apply their knowledge in the real world by working at restaurants, lodgings, catering companies, and other related organizations. By working in these settings, students gain a firsthand look of how the professional kitchen operates, giving them an edge in their future careers.

The goal of UNT’s culinary education is to create well-rounded professionals who are capable of handling all facets of the culinary industry. Graduates of the program will have the skills necessary to become successful chefs, food stylists, restaurateurs, caterers, sommeliers and more. With this degree, students can make a difference in not only the community, but the world. It is no surprise that UNT’s culinary education continues to thrive in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area.
